To be able to study Tarot Cards and do professional readings we need to understand the structure of the Tarot Cards, recognizing which cards related to which group, this will give us general sense of meaning.
Each Tarot pack contain 78 cards :
22 Major Arcana
56 Minor Arcana. Divided into four suits, each suit contains 14 cards. The four suits are : Wands, Cups, Swords and Pentacles.
The Minor Arcana represents every day event. They are similar to the playing cards: cards numbered form 1 – 10 and four court cards: king, queen, knight and page. In fact you can do a reading with the playing cards.
Wands: Clubs
Cups: Hearts
Swords: Spades
Pentacles: Diamonds
The Major Arcana represent the spiritual lessons. In the reading, the Minor Arcana can tell you that there is an issue in an area in your life. The Major Arcana can tell you what are the spiritual lessons that need to be learn in that situation.

The Wand Suit in the Tarot Card PackEach card in this suite have a number of wands similar to the card number. Except for the court cards, each card has one wand. The wands represent the element of fire and the fire signs: Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. The wands represent actions, enthusiasm, physical energy, challenges and travel. The Sword Suit in the Tarot Card PackEach card in this suite have a number of swords similar to the card number. Except for the court cards, each card has one sword. The sword represent the element of air and the air signs: Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius. The swords represent ideas, concepts, beliefs and attitudes. |
The Cup Suit in the Tarot Card PackEach card in this suite have a number of cups similar to the card number. Except for the court cards, each card has one cup. The Cups represent the element of water and the water signs: Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces. The Cups represent love, imagination, feelings and passion. The Pentacle Suit in the Tarot Card PackEach card in this suite have a number of coins similar to the card number. Except for the court cards, each card has one coin. The pentacles represent the element of earth and the earth signs: Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn. The pentacles represent tangible and material things. |
Assignment1: Before moving on to the next lesson, make sure to make yourself familiar with the structure of the Tarot cards; play will the cards, and pick one or two cards every single day for the coming week. You should know if the card is related to the Major Arcana or the Minor Arcana. If the Card is related to the Minor Arana you should know which suits is the card related to.
Assignment2: Study the roman numbers and memorize them. For the coming lessons on the Minor Arcana you need to memorize number from 1 - 10.
